Zyter|TruCare, led by cricket enthusiast and chairman Sanjay Govil, steps up to the crease, proudly announcing their corporate sponsorship of the Washington Freedom Cricket team.
Cricket, the world’s second-most popular sport, boasts over 2.5 billion devout fans. Govil aims to harness this global love and cultivate cricket’s American roots, fostering a culture of diversity and camaraderie.
Govil, both an immigrant and the proud owner of the Washington Freedom, harbors a steadfast belief in the unifying and inspiring power of team sports. In an ambitious alliance with Cricket New South Wales, one of the world’s premier cricket organizations, he is poised to propel American cricket to unparalleled heights.
Zyter|TruCare, Infinite, and Govil prioritize inclusivity, cultural unity, and sportsmanship, believing that sponsoring a cricket team on American soil aligns perfectly with these values.
“It’s inspiring to see people rally around a common cause. Here at Zyter|TruCare, our core values resonate when we think about creating diverse spaces and nurturing teams,” says Kevin Riley, President and CEO of Zyter|TruCare. “Supporting the Washington Freedom is an exciting embodiment of our vision, sparking the growth of cricket in the USA.”
The Washington Freedom, proudly the inaugural cricket team representing Washington, DC, took the field in the first edition of Major League Cricket (MLC) this July. They competed against teams from across the US in the quest for the coveted MLC championship, ultimately finishing the season with three wins and two losses.
“We’re incredibly honored and privileged to have such high-quality players in our inaugural year,” says Govil. “The anticipation is palpable, both for us and the American audience. Up until now, fans have only watched these players on TV or during international travel. To have them play here on a US pitch is truly a game-changer for the sport.”

Further fueling the excitement, the team will soon call George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, their home. The new stadium, set to open in summer 2025, will host both cricket and baseball games, providing seating for up to 12,000 fans. In the meantime, the games leading up to the championship will unfold at Church Street Park in Morrisville, NC, with the finale taking place at Grand Prairie Stadium in Grand Prairie, TX.
Esteemed coaches Michael Klinger, Greg Shipperd, and Dale Steyn are among those enlisted to guide the team, which features renowned players including Captain Moises Henriques, Anrich Nortje, Glenn Phillips, and Marco Jansen. This international team boasted an exciting season that brought its worldwide fans to the edge of their seats.
Finishing third in the league standings, the team proved to be a strong contender in the MLC. Standout performances from South African all-rounder Marco Janson and Indian American bowler Saurabh Netravalkar have been critical to the team’s success.
“We started off with a bang in the first over,” said Andries Gous, a South-African wicketkeeper for the Washington Freedom. “And then the second over went for a lot of runs as well, so it was like, Let’s just keep going!” Gous scored 40 runs off 15 balls during this winning game, making an excellent contribution to the team’s overall score.

Although America is well-acquainted with the sports fan lifestyle, cricket has been relatively absent for some time. The introduction of the Twenty20 (T20) format in 2003 revolutionized the game, making it more accessible to global audiences, much like baseball, soccer, and football.
The resurgence of cricket in the US owes much to immigrants sharing their love for the sport. The formation of Major League Cricket (MLC) in 2019 marked a significant step, and in 2022, MLC raised $120 million to support the sport, allowing American teams to compete this summer.
Cricket has a rich history in America, dating back to the 1700s. It even made history as one of the first international sporting events when the Canadian and American cricket teams faced off in 1844. However, the game’s popularity declined due to a range of factors.
Now, the USA is attracting new cricket talent with visa sponsorship programs and has set its sights on the 2028 Olympics. The new era of American cricket has begun, and Zyter|TruCare is excited to be a part of this exhilarating journey.
“At Zyter|TruCare, we proudly sponsor the Washington Freedom Cricket team in Major League Cricket, driven by our unwavering commitment to fostering diversity and sportsmanship,” said Riley. “Together, we aim to inspire and strengthen the cricket community, promoting a culture of teamwork and inclusivity. The Washington Freedom team’s passion and dedication exemplify the spirit we champion, and we are honored to stand by their side as they leave a legacy on the pitch. We look forward to an exceptional partnership and future seasons filled with excitement and sweeping victories!”
